Users sue Donald Trump over WeChat ban

US users have come out against the decision to ban multipurpose messaging app WeChat owned by the Chinese company Tencent Holding. America's non-profit organization WeChat Users' Alliance has filed a lawsuit against US President Donald Trump. The lawsuit has been filed for issuing an executive order to ban WeChat.

On August 21, the WeChat Users Alliance filed a complaint in San Francisco court against the banning of the messaging app. The Alliance says President Trump's Executive Order, Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Exercise of Religion and violation of legal rights. In the petition, WeChat users have said that they use this messaging app to keep in touch with work, and their relatives living in China. The Alliance has sought a stay on the executive order by the court. This alliance of users has no relation with WeChat's parent company Tencent Holding. US President Donald Trump signed two executive orders on 6 August. Through these executive orders, the Trump administration has banned WeChat and TikTok for security reasons. However, this restriction is to come into effect 45 days later i.e. from 15 September. Recently, Donald Trump has granted a 90-day extension to the Chinese company ByteDance to sell the US business of TikTok.

Microsoft, Twitter and Oracle are in talks with ByteDance to buy TikTok's US business. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has also informed Donald Trump. Donald Trump has also supported the Microsoft- ByteDance deal. Trump wants an American company to buy the American business of TikTok. However, talks with any of ByteDance's companies have not been finalized yet.
