Identify purity of gold, know what Hallmarking is

The sale of Hallmark Jewellery has been made mandatory from next year. In such a situation, the number of hallmarking centres is being increased to save consumers and traders from trouble. It will have many benefits. Let's know what hallmarking is and why it is important? Also, know how to identify the purity of gold from it.

Hallmark is the government guarantee. The hallmark is determined by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), India's only agency. In hallmarking, a product is certified to the specified criteria. BIS in India is an organization that checks the quality level being provided to consumers. Gold Coins or Jewelry Any gold jewellery that is hallmarked by BIS is required to bear the BIS logo on it. This shows that BIS has been tested for its accuracy in licensed laboratories.

Currently, there are 921 hallmarking centres in 234 districts across the country. About 31 thousand jewellers have applied for hallmarking online. About 5 lakh jewellers have been expected to come under the purview of hallmarking. Hallmark on jewellery weighing less than 2 grams is not necessary, but all the jewellery above this has been hallmarked by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). All three standard 14,18,22 carat jewellery hallmark mandatory since next year.

Hallmark has five identities. The original hallmark is the triangular mark of BIS on the jewellery. It carries the logo of the hallmarking centre from where the jewellery was certified. The purity of that gold is also written. The year of manufacture of jewellery is also written. The producer's logo is also there. This is the way to identify purity. 24 carat is 999 written on pure gold, 916 is written on 22-carat jewellery, 875 is written on 21-carat gold, 750 is written on 18-carat jewellery, 585 is written on 14-carat jewellery.

In the name of being more expensive due to Hallmark, be careful if the jeweller offers you inexpensive Hallmark jewellery. Experts say that the cost per jewellery hallmark is just Rs 35. While buying gold, do not forget to take the Authenticity or Purity certificate. Also, check the quality of gold in the certificate. Also, take a separate certificate for GemStone engaged in gold jewellery.

Hallmarking is essential to protect consumers from counterfeit products and to monitor business. The advantage of hallmarking is that when you go to sell it, no depreciation cost will be deducted, ie you will get a fair price for gold. In hallmarking, the product passes through several stages. There is a possibility of any quality disturbances in this. Also, it is helpful to keep an eye on the buying and selling of gold in the market. Investigation agencies can track the disturbances by matching the data of several institutions when needed.
