America's Donald Trump government is
taking a tough stand against China and its companies. In this series, the Trump
government has taken another step, after which China's leading technology
company Huawei will no longer be able to buy chips made from American
technology and other major components from companies of another country. For
this, the US Department of Commerce has issued new rules. This has made the way
for Huawei to acquire a chip made of American technology.
Last year, Washington decided to
block Huawei's direct access to American components and technology. In May this
year, the White House asked vendors using American technology worldwide not to
supply components to Huawei. US President Trump said, "We don't want them
to use American things, because they spy on us."
A Huawei official said earlier this
month that due to restrictions, processor chips for making smartphones have
started getting scarce and the company may have to halt production of its own
advance chip. However, the US Department of Commerce said on Monday that it had
become necessary to tighten the restrictions further as Huawei has been trying
to 'consistently avoid the restrictions' through technology supplied by third
parties. The new rules aim to make Huawei's access to chips made through the
tools acquired from the US more difficult.
