Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched
a property card scheme on Sunday, October 11, 2020. He said that this card will
bring clarity in property rights in villages. Farmers will be able to take
loans from financial institutions by pledging their property through this card.
Two-thirds of the people of India
live in villages, where few people have complete land records and there is a
dispute about the property. In a webcast, introducing property card
distribution under the ownership scheme, he said that this is a historic initiative
to change the situation in villages. The government wants to use drone
technology for mapping the plots of villages. In the next four years, the
government wants to do this work in about 6 lakh 20 thousand villages.
The PM said that despite having their
own house, people face huge difficulties in taking loans. Now these people can
easily take a loan by showing the card given in the ownership plan. This month,
one lakh people will start getting digitized property cards in more than 750
villages in six states.
Like the Aadhaar card, every property
card will have a unique number. Modi also spoke to several beneficiaries of the
Survey of Villages and Mapping with Improved Technology in Village Areas
(Proprietorship) Scheme. He said that this is a big step towards the country
becoming self-reliant.
According to the news, at the
beginning of the ownership plan, about one lakh property owners will be able to
download the cards associated with their property via SMS link on their mobile
phones. After this, the physical distribution of the property card will be done
by the respective state governments. At present, the beneficiaries of this
scheme are from 763 villages in six states. These include 346 in Uttar Pradesh,
100 in Maharashtra, 44 in Madhya Pradesh, 221 in Haryana, 50 in Uttarakhand and
two villages in Karnataka.
According to the statement, except
Maharashtra, the beneficiaries of all these states will be given a physical
copy of their property card within a day. There is a provision to take some fee
for property card in Maharashtra, so it will take a month. According to the
statement of the PMO, this is the first time that a campaign is being started
on a large level by using advanced technology for the benefit of millions of
rural property owners.
